Due to various reasons, businesses are having increasing challenges to fill positions. Additionally, people looking for work have over 1 million vacancies to choose from. This echo’s some of the results from a survey by the British Plastics Federation, which showed over 76% of firms are having difficulties recruiting new talent.
Employee benefits are crucial to organisations looking at attracting new talent or retaining the existing talent they hold. So, how do HR professionals strategically use employee benefits to achieve these outcomes?
Initially it’s a case of looking internally to see what generation you are trying to recruit from. For example, millennials make up over 50% of the active workforce in the UK, and 63% of this group have said financial rewards and employee benefits are the most important factor when considering working for a company (REED). Knowing this, it’s not only a case of offering a higher salary than your competitor, but also looking at employee benefit strategies and schemes such as:
- Health insurance
- Cash plans
- Pension support and advice
- Life insurance
- Wellness programs
As peoples careers and family lives develop, they look for different types of benefits and approaches to meet their changing needs.
