ARMO Student Design Competition Winners Announced
Tuesday, 9 June 2015
As part of the ARMO 2015 event taking place from 13th – 15th September 2015, the British Plastics Federation (BPF) launched a student design competition that was open to all UK and International design students. The challenge for the 2015 competition was to create a product that demonstrated an appreciation of the many advantages of rotational moulding, spanning across two categories; ‘At Leisure’and ‘Our Green Environment’.
The ‘At Leisure’ category, kindly sponsored by Gordon Ellis, was won by Eugenia Lee with her entry the ‘Hamwock’. This entry was inspired by a hammock and a lily pad and was designed to highlight the many beneficial facets of plastics, including its strength, lightweight design and easy to clean characteristics. Eugenia was born in Arizona, USA and grew up in Seoul, South Korea. She attends Purdue University and is a member of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA).
Gordon Ellis and Co-Designer Jordan Brocklehurst were impressed by the Hamwock’s multi-functional nature, commenting; “It is a great example of a well-considered design, with style, practicality and commercial potential.”
The ‘Our Green Environment’ category, kindly sponsored by Kingspan Environmental, was won by Jonathan Payne with his submission titled the ‘CompoT’. The entry was developed by Jonathan to help solve a friend’s design issues being experienced in their new worm farm business. Jonathan is a final year product design engineering student at Queens University in Belfast, Ireland.
Each category winner received £750. The two category winners, plus runners up Harry Tatham and Henry Curtis of London South Bank University, will be put forward to the final stage of judging to decide who will win the overall ARMO Student Design Competition prize of £1,000, kindly sponsored by Balmoral Tanks, and a six month work placement provided by Kingspan Environmental.
The winning designs will be exhibited at the ARMO 2015 event in Nottingham, UK. To find out more, please visit www.armo2015.com or speak to BPF Events Executive, Paul Baxter on 0207 457 5047.
