Aston University’s PrOH Modelling Methodology Transforms How Organisations Navigate Complex Change

Aston University researchers are proud to spotlight the groundbreaking development and real-world impact of PrOH Modelling — an innovative systems thinking methodology that is redefining organisational transformation and digitalisation.

Developed by Professor Ben Clegg and Dr Krishna Balthu from Aston Business School, Process Oriented Holonic (PrOH) Modelling combines the strengths of soft systems thinking and action research with a unique holonic structure that enables organisations to model, understand, and improve complex human-centred processes and change systems.

Unlike traditional process mapping tools, PrOH Modelling reveals deep systemic success factors that influence strategic effectiveness, operational efficiency, and cultural responsiveness. Its use of holons and holarchies allows organisations to visualise interactions among people, processes, strategy, and technology in ways that drive meaningful and sustainable change.
