Axion Consulting hosts optimising MRF operations event

Axion Consulting is hosting a seminar and exhibition in May on making the most of a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and optimising sorting and segregation technologies.

A key difference to specialist recycler’s Axion’s event, entitled: ‘Designing, building and operating a modern MRF – lessons learned from practical experience’, will be leading technology experts who can provide advice and information to delegates on their specialist areas of expertise.

Aimed at MRF operators and waste management companies looking to optimise the technical aspects of modern MRF operations, the May 25th event will be held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology in Birmingham. For further information click here

Presentations from Florian Clever of Dela, Jonathan Clarke from TITECH, Trevor Smart of Stadler and Axion’s Roger Morton and Simon Wilkinson will include getting the most out of MRF operations in the UK and sorting solutions for maximising quality and quantity. Topics covered include preparing in-feed material, setting up machines and measuring their performance, including the statistical sampling techniques required to obtain meaningful results.

Exhibitors are Acta Recycling A/S, Dela GmbH, IFE Aufberietungstechnik GmbH, Ken Mills Engineering Ltd, Stadler GmbH, S & S Inspection Ltd, TITECH and NESTRO Lufttechnik GmbH.

TITECH UK’s Managing Director Jonathan Clarke says: “We wholeheartedly support this initiative from Axion, which is aimed at improving MRF design and sharing best practice. Optical sorting is sometimes perceived as a silver bullet that can resolve any quality issues. In reality optimum performance can only be achieved if the MRF is designed well from start to finish, so that materials are correctly presented to each stage of the automated process.”

Axion Director Roger Morton, who will be addressing delegates, says: “By optimising sorting and segregation technologies, operators can more effectively separate recyclable materials, including plastic packaging, by polymer type. This produces higher quality materials that can substitute virgin material in the manufacture of new items, while ultimately gaining maximum market value for products.”

He adds: “Making the most of a MRF brings a wide range of environmental and economic benefits - in particular, improved quality and quantity of recyclables that are recycled, which in turn supports the sustainability of UK plastics recycling operations.”

Axion Consulting is part of the Axion Group that develops and operates innovative resource recovery and processing solutions for recycling waste materials. The Group works with a wide range of clients, from Government agencies and local authorities to companies in diverse commercial sectors, on the practical development of new processing and collection methods to recover value from waste resources.
