BPF Bio-Based and Degradable Plastics Seminar
Thursday, 16 April 2009
13th May, BPF House, London
On Wednesday 13th May 2009, the BPF (British Plastics Federation) is holding a key strategic seminar to address the complex issues surrounding Bio-Based and Degradable Plastics and to help provide clarity as to their properties and appropriate use to the high-level industry delegates in attendance.
Bio-based and degradable plastics are receiving much interest from the public, media and downstream users and are increasingly being specified for industrial and consumer applications. These materials have been heralded by some as being more environmentally friendly than conventional plastics and providing the answer to the nation's waste management problems. Others argue that the advantages of these materials are exaggerated and that their presence in the waste stream could potentially prevent conventional recycling.
Peter Davis, BPF Director-General says:
"Bio-based and degradable plastics are an exciting addition to the plastics family, but there is real confusion amongst the industry and downstream users as to their properties and appropriate use. By drawing together industry experts this BPF seminar will help to clarify the advantages these materials can bring and to establish their future role"
This seminar will provide an in-depth assessment of these new and emerging technologies, considering their entire life cycle in industrial and packaging applications. Presentations and case-studies from leading experts will lead delegates through the complicated terminology surrounding these materials and provide them with a true understanding of their properties, advantages and appropriate use, culminating with a consideration of the issues these materials can present when entering the waste stream.
