BPF Education & Skills Committee Welcomes New Chairperson

Chair-elect of the BPF Education & Skills Committee, Gillian Doughty, officially began her tenure at the committee meeting held on Monday 7 November 2016.

As regional HR manager for RPC Superfos in Oakham, Gillian is well aware of the issues facing the industry within the skills sector. A strong proponent of closing the current skills gap and safeguarding the future of manufacturing, Gillian has been a regular feature since the Education & Skills Committee’s inception and a vocal participant in the committee meetings.

Gillian’s proactive and supportive attitude towards the skills landscape of our industry is precisely what this committee needs to take it forward and help deliver results for its members. The BPF looks forward to Gillian building on the successes of the outgoing chair, Philip J. Watkins, who did so much to bring key issues in the skills sector to light,” said BPF Director-General Philip Law.

Gillian reiterated the BPF’s appreciation for the outgoing chairman Philip J. Watkins. She, along with the BPF, thanked Philip for his efforts and wished him success for the future, stating: “I’m really looking forward to building upon the work Philip started. There are many challenges ahead in respect of the Skills Agenda and we need to ensure we understand the reforms to continue the development of employees’ skills within our industry sector.

The Education & Skills Committee’s ongoing mission is to act as the authoritative reference point for assessing the UK plastics industry's future human resources and skills requirements. The committee also aims to encourage and support a flow of personnel who either possess the appropriate skills or who have the potential to acquire them.
