BPF EPS Group Announce European Competency Centre for Fish Boxes

The BPF EPS Group and its Members are proud to announce that they have been awarded the status of ‘European Competency Centre on Fish Boxes’.

The aim of the competency centre is to promote the use of EPS fish boxes by underlining the advantages they bring, particularly for applications where the food temperature must be kept within a certain range. The fish box market is the largest packaging application of expanded polystyrene (EPS) in Europe.

The BPF EPS Group aims to compile reliable information on European EPS fish box activities, such as; market size, recycling statistics and useful publications.

Sara Cammarano, Industrial Issues Executive at the British Plastics Federation said, “The Group aim not only to compile statistics of EPS fish box usage in Europe, but also to set up a segmented marketing strategy for the fish box industry, taking the needs of the entire supply chain into consideration. We have already created a fish box website that can be visited at, www.fishboxes.info

Notes for Editors:

Since 2012 EUMEPS PowerParts Members have been working to support the entire European Industry and will continue to do so via the creation of a number of European Competency Centres. In addition to the BPF’s Fish Box Competency Centre, the following have also been established;

Recycling - ECOPSE, the Frenchassociation for airpop® Power Parts applications, is responsible for the Competence Centre on Recycling. In addition to the collection of recycling figures, ECOPSE plans to establish a cross-industry working group and to set up communication tools to promote recycling activities.

Quality - AIPE (Italian Association of Expanded Polystyrene) is in charge of organising the “European Centre of Competency for EPS Quality Pack”. The Competency Centre aims to support European manufactures of EPS packaging by providing information and tools suitable to manage and ensure the quality of manufactured products.

Market intelligence - IK, the German association for plastics packaging and films, is responsible for the Competency Centre on Market Intelligence. The scope of IK's work is to compile and analyse the relevant airpop® market data and trends that will be regularly collected with the aim of generating an overall picture and short term trends data for each country.

Sustainability - ANAPE, the Spanish association of expanded polystyrene, has been awarded the title of Competency Centre on Sustainability. ANAPE aims to document and classify sustainability studies of interest to the Airpop® industry. ANAPE has already produced a study database and summarised the main results by area.
