BPF Hails Landfill Avoidance Advances

The British Plastics Federation has warmly welcomed the opening last week on 11th May of: the ECO Plastics advanced new Continuum plastics recycling plant at Hemswell, Lincolnshire; the new Thames riverside Energy from Waste plant at Belvedere, Kent, opened by Princess Anne.
Peter Davis, Director-General of the BPF said “these brand new advanced recovery facilities take us a step closer to achieving our Plastics 2020 Challenge objective of preventing used plastics being dumped in landfill by 2020.
“Our priority first and foremost is to recycle used plastics but there will be an unrecyclable fraction which can go to Energy from Waste and provide local community heat and power.”
“The Hemswell recycling plant will be able to process 150,000 tonnes of mixed plastics a year to create new products and prevent more used plastics being exported.”
“The Belvedere EfW plant took an astonishing 15 years to get planning permission but will provide power for 100,000 homes and will process 585,000 tonnes of Londoners waste each year saving fossil fuels.”
