50+ Industry Professionals Attend BPF Sustainability Event

BPF Hosts Major Sustainability Event

On 12th June, the British Plastics Federation (BPF) hosted the latest edition of its well-regarded Sustainability Seminar, attracting more than 50 professionals from across the plastics industry. The one-day event took place at the London offices of Mitsui & Co., providing a platform for networking and in-depth discussion on critical environmental issues affecting the sector.

Chaired by Jamie Riley of Amcor, the seminar gathered sustainability experts and business leaders from across the UK to explore the challenges and opportunities around sustainable plastics production.

The agenda featured expert-led presentations on a wide range of key topics, including:

  • Sustainable Plastics Manufacturing in Europe – Green Deal in the EU, presented by Geoff Mackey, Plastics Europe
  • The Impact of UK Plastics Policies on SMEs, presented by Dr Adeyemi Adelekan, University of Manchester
  • Setting science-based targets and navigating the route to net zero
  • Understanding Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and ESG reporting
  • Exploring real-world reuse and anti-litter initiatives

One of the main takeaways from the event was the significant impact evolving legislation will have on sustainability goals across both the UK and the EU. Speakers and attendees also voiced concerns about political uncertainty and its potential to delay progress. However, there was strong consensus that sustainability continues to rise in importance across every part of the plastics value chain.

Here’s what some attendees had to say:

Geoff Mackey - Driving Sustainability, NOW

"A very informed audience... good discussions and thought promoting speakers..."

Pat Hermon - Technical Lead, BRE Sustainable Products

"Great to present and have so many largely upstream suppliers interested in EPD"

Danielle Field - Senior Insight Executive, Ipsos Corporate Reputation

"Was such a great day and really inspiring to hear about all the innovation and sustainability efforts happening in the plastics industry!"
