BPF India event series to present market opportunities

A series of British Plastics Federation (BPF) coordinated events based on the Indian plastics market will educate UK plastics industry representatives on the major opportunities available and provide frontline experience to firms wishing to forge business relationships in the country.

With an exponential growth predicted for the plastics market in India, the BPF’s series of events which include a trade mission to India, will give a solid insight into potentially lucrative business opportunities.

The growth rate of the Indian plastics industry is one of the highest in the world, with plastics consumption growing at 16% per annum compared to 10% p.a in China and around 2.5% p.a. in the UK.  With a growing middle class, which is currently estimated to sit at 50 million and a low per capita consumption of plastics - currently 8kg per head- this trend is likely to continue.  According to the Plastindia Foundation plastics consumption in India is likely to reach 16kg per head by 2015.

Kick-starting the Federation’s Indian themed events will be the Opportunities for UK Plastics Companies in India seminar which will be held on 20th October 2011 at the BPF’s offices in London. The one day seminar supported by UKT&I will give delegates practical advice from leading experts on conducting business in India who will examine in detail the legal aspects of managing business relations in India, taxation, securing payment, as well as give an introduction to Indian business culture.

The BPF will subsequently host its successful British Pavilion at Plastindia 2012 from 1st to 6th February 2012 in New Delhi, India, which also enjoys UKT&I support. The show takes place once every three years and the last show in 2009 attracted 1,518 exhibitors and 130,000 visitors. The British Pavilion was present with 17 UK companies and was the only European pavilion featured out of 17 other countries. Member firms attending the Fair reported on the strength of exhibiting under the BPF led British Pavilion in obtaining strong business leads and developing long-term relationships. The deadline for companies wishing to secure a stand booking is 2nd September 2011.

In addition to organising a British Pavilion at the Plastindia show, the BPF is also inviting delegates from the UK who would like to visit the market to join a Trade Mission to India between the 1st and 4th February 2011. Mission delegates will visit the Plastinida show as an organised group and will have an opportunity to take part in business- to- business meetings.

The BPF has released a detailed report based on its experiences at the Mumbai Plastivision fair – the fifth largest plastics show in the world – earlier in the year to help companies assess the opportunities in India. It details key growth areas such as the packaging, construction and automotive sectors.
