BPF Launches New OCS Resources & RECOUP becomes First Official Supporter

Since 2009, the BPF has run Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) in the UK, which is an initiative to prevent pellet, flake and powder loss throughout the plastic supply chain. It is completely free to sign up and any company handling these materials can be a part of OCS. However, a newly launched ‘supporter role’ is eligible for those who don’t directly handle pellets, flake or powder, but still want to show support for the initiative. The BPF is delighted to announce that RECOUP, plastics resource efficiency and recycling charity, has become the first OCS supporter. The supporter’s responsibility is to raise awareness around the scheme, and to assist with this, the BPF is launching a supporter role kit.
Part of the supporter role kit is the OCS brochure which is a great tool to inform your network on what OCS is, why companies should sign up and how the PAS510:2021 can help to implement robust pellet management policies. The kit also contains social media posts, presentation slides, an event flyer and an email template to help raise awareness around the initiative. By sharing these materials with your network, it will help OCS to grow within the UK and ultimately help with reducing plastic material loss into the ocean.
PAS 510:2021 is the world’s first pellet loss prevention standard that sets out the requirements for handling and management of plastic pellet, flake and powder. The BPF will be launching guidance to help companies become PAS 510:2021 complainant, more details will be released on this shortly.
Looking towards next year, the BPF is going to use its platform to create a collaborative environment where companies can share their spill prevention techniques and clean up solutions.
