Tuesday, 13 February 2024
The BPF has organised a joint letter to the Exchequer Secretary Gareth Davies calling for an urgent government response to the Treasury led mass balance consultation that was published in July 2023. 16 organisations have signed the letter which highlights “The UK has a real opportunity to be the leader in chemical recycling” and that “the commitment to allowing a mass balance calculation to be used within the Plastic Packaging Tax is a key enabler for this.”
As well as the BPF, the letter has been signed by the Chemical Industries Association, RECOUP, INCPEN, On-Pack Recycling Label, Food and Drink Federation, FoodService Packaging Association, The Packaging Federation, Environmental Services Association, Plastics Europe, The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, The Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee, The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers and Valpak.
The BPF also continues to update it's Chemical Recycling Information Hub which provides a wealth of information on Chemical Recycling. The Hubs includes LCAs, capacity data and an explanation on the different chemical recycling processes.
