BPF Press Release: Innovations In Plastics

The Environmental benefits of plastcs materials and products are to be spelled out in a special Supplement ‘’Innovation in Plastics,’’ to be issued with The Times newspaper on Tuesday, April 1st.
Several contributors demonstrate how Plastic is fantastic for the environment:
HOW, without plastics, the weight of packaging would increase by 400% , energy usage would double and waste would rise by 150%.
HOW plastics components in cars save 750 litres of fuel over a 90,000 mile lifespan.
HOW a new A380 aircraft with 20% of its bodyweight made from carbon fibre reinforced plastics burns 21% less fuel per passenger than than earlier versions.
HOW plastics pipe systems are replacing Londons Victorian cast- iron water supply system and saving over 100 million litres of water a day.
HOW the recycling of PVC-U windows is increasing rapidly with the UK now recycling more PVC-U window profile than other European countries.
Calum Forsyth, President of the British Plastics Federation, and Group Managing Drector of Wavin UK, introduces the Supplement by emphasising the strong contribution made by the United Kingdoms plastics industry to economy and society. The industry is Fit for the Future says Forsyth who then goes on to elaborate on the UK industrys competitive edge in global markets, in particular its capacity for innovation.
2008 marks the 75th Anniversary of the British Plastics Federation and the corporate sponsors of the Anniversary year are specially highlighted.
