BPF Rotational Moulding Conference 2025

The British Plastics Federation hosted their annual rotational moulding conference in Coventry. Sponsored by Matrix Polymers, the day saw the rotomoulding industry gathered to hear a range of expert speakers on subjects such as the BPF’s productivity guidance documents, technical challenges for rotomoulders, advanced coating, and the impact of tariffs on trade.

Held at The Heart of England Conference and Events Centre it was a sunny day for delegates at a venue set in 160 acres of grounds, with a restaurant, plus a manor house hotel.

There were several opportunities to network during the day, with members of the BPF Rotational Moulding Group, visitors from oversees, and an exhibition space featuring technical demonstrations from suppliers.

Steve Harrington is a Senior Regional Sales Manager for Matrix Polymers European Business and got the day started with a look at the impact of tariffs on the supply of Roto PE in Europe. Steve looked at the wider supply issues for raw materials before warning that in the current age of protectionist trade measures, there are currently no EU import tariffs on PE from the US, but this is a dynamic situation and policies are constantly changing. He added that the tariffs are making winners in losers in the market, but uncertainty is the new norm.

Graeme Craig of the BPF introduced the prospect of a new guidance document for rotomoulders. As part of the BPF’s Redefining Productivity resource, he confirmed that a rotational moulding guide is about to be published as a free download for BPF members. A key contributor to the document is Rototek, and they’re Chairman, Steff Wright attended to outline some of the ket areas covered in the guide. Steff highlighted the use of AI in manufacturing with a live interactive demonstration of its capability.

Gareth McDowell of 493K had a captive audience for his take on the Technical Obstacles to the Advancement of Rotational Moulding – what he called the 4 Ms:

  • Mould
  • Machine
  • Material
  • Manpower

The good news is that Gareth doesn’t see these at obstacles, but opportunities; all of which can be achieved in the most basic elements of the process.

Kevin Bridges of Corilla Plastics attended saying, “My colleagues and I thoroughly enjoyed the BPF Rotational Moulding Seminar. It was very informative with some great ideas and products being presented. As always, Gareth McDowell’s presentation was very entertaining, he’s a great ambassador for Rotomoulding. It was great to catch up with so many acquaintances from years gone by, people do stay faithful to this wonderful industry.”

This annual event is a key event in the sectors UK calendar and open to members and non-member alike. Plas are already underway for next year’s event with added social/networking opportunities.
