World leading contact lens manufacturer, CooperVision, joins the BPF and applies to CCA scheme.

On Tuesday, British Plastics Federation visited one of its new members, CooperVision, a world leading contact lens producers, with two manufacturing sites in the UK.

CooperVision manufacturing site in Chandler’s Ford boasts a workforce of 300 staff, while Hamble operates with a team of 1400. Both sites are integral parts of CooperVision Manufacturing and the wider Cooper Companies organization with its HQ in San Ramon, USA and contact lens production facilities in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Hungary.

One of the biggest employers in the region, CooperVision manufacture using some of the most advanced technologies that solve the toughest vision challenges such as astigmatism and presbyopia. Alongside their state-of-the-art production facility, flagship optic solutions are developed at their R&D facility in Chandler’s Ford in partnership with all their facilities globally.

Both Chandler’s Ford and Hamble sites are state-of-the-art production facilities and very recently applied to join the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) with support by BPF Energy.

In 2009 the BPF negotiated and secured the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on behalf of the UK plastics sector.

CCA is a voluntary pact that outlines goals for enhancing energy efficiency and curbing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Those involved in the initiative enjoy exemptions from the Climate Change Levy (CCL), reaching up to 92% for electricity and 88% for natural gas and other fuels.

The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is an environmental tax imposed on businesses based on their energy usage, aiming to promote energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. To benefit from reduced CCL rates, energy-intensive businesses must enter into a Climate Change Agreement (CCA).

Since this agreement, over 500 UK plastics processors have saved over £27 million annually in Climate Change Levy payments. Savings from a CCA would have been re-invested to enhance the industry's efficiency and competitiveness.

BPF Energy was established to assist the BPF in managing the CCA program accessible to both federation members, who can enjoy 58% discount on BPF Energy fees and non-members. This offer is applicable to companies consuming more than 250,000 kWh per annum.
