Enhancing Productivity: Insights from the BPF Productivity Seminar 2023

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) “Productivity in the Plastics Industry” Seminar held on June 14th at the MTC Coventry proved to be an exceptional gathering of industry professionals dedicated to improving productivity in the plastics manufacturing sector.

Through insightful keynote speeches, engaging discussions, and a practical case study, participants gained valuable knowledge and exchanged ideas on how to address challenges and seize opportunities. The event served as a catalyst for collaboration, laying the foundation for future advancements in productivity and sustainability within the industry.

The event, was very well attended by plastics companies from various sectors: including injection moulders, packaging companies, a pipes manufacturer, raw material suppliers, equipment and service providers. Apart from the informative programme of presentations, the event also featured tabletop exhibitions of BPF members.

The Seminar is one of the initiatives of the BPF Productivity Committee and it was chaired by the Committee chairman, Nigel Flowers, Managing Director of Sumitomo Demag UK. The programme included presentations on the following topics:

  • What does ‘good’ performance look like and how do you measure it? Tim Scurlock, Managing Director, Applied Lean Consulting
  • Productivity Improvement Where To Start? Mark Greenhouse, Business Process & Lean Improvement Specialistt, Levantar
  • Intelligent application of sustainable technologies - A Case Study, Daniel Kelk, Project Engineer, Plastek UK
  • Investing In People Simon Kidger, Strategic Engagement Manager, MTC Training Services
  • ROI & TCO: How the total solution model can help value stream growth and higher profitability & productivity, Martin Grimshaw, Head of Sales, FANUC UK 

After the seminar a group of deleagtes joined an optional tour of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) technology tour showcases cutting-edge advancements in manufacturing. Highlights include state-of-the-art robotics and automation systems, additive manufacturing processes like 3D printing, precision machining capabilities and more. 

BPF Productivity Seminar 2024

The next BPF Productivity Seminar is planned for the 2024 and more details will be circulated nearer the time.
