MicroGuard™ by Microban Nominated for Best Technology Application of the Year

The prestigious Plastics Industry Awards has recognised and rewarded excellence in the plastics industry since 2001. The event will take place on Friday 17th November in London and aims to acknowledge the best companies and the best people in the industry. 

Microban's innovative MicroGuard™ technology has been nominated for the Best Techology Application of the Year at the Plastics Industry Awards 2023. MicroGuard™ is a new line of metal-free, non-leaching antimicrobial chemistries, designed for PVC, PU and EVA foam applications and can be used as a sustainable alternative to OBPA, which was banned in the EU due to its environmental impact. 

The technology has application in the construction industry. For example, PVC is often used in construction, due to its versatile properties. However, PVC includes plasticizers that encourage fungal growth, which is difficult to remove or control. Similarly, other conventional plastic materials often contain organic compounds that provide nutrients for mold. Fungal growth is a significant challenge for building owners. 

MicroGuard™ offers a sustainable, metal-free alternative to OBPA, in turn extending a material's lifespan and reduce waste in the construction industry.
