Olympic Delivery Authority to hold ‘Plastics Industry Day’ with the BPF
At a meeting on the 20th February with the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) at the Building Centre, Store Street, London, it was announced that the ODA would hold a ‘Plastics Industry Day’ with the British Plastics Federation (BPF) and plastics industry, to discuss the role of plastics in the Games. The meeting, which will take place in the next 3-4 months, forms part of the ODA strategy to engage with stakeholders at an early stage.
Since the ODA was formed, the BPF has engaged very early with the organisation to provide information of the many benefits of plastics to the 2012 Olympics. Representatives from the BPF attended the first ‘Olympic Briefing’, and this was then followed up with a meeting between Peter Davis BPF Director General, Philip Law Public & Industrial Affairs Director BPF and Dr. Peter Bonfield leader for construction products at the ODA. The meeting established the BPF as the primary contact and authoritative source of information on plastics in the UK, and established a platform for future work together. Dr. Bonfield acknowledged this early contact between the BPF and ODA in the yesterday’s meeting.
The ‘Plastics Industry Day’ will not only involve the ODA, but also the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), who are responsible for the actual running of the games in 2012. This gives the day a far wider scope than building products, plastic products used during the games such as sports equipment, packaging, signage, etc. will also be discussed.
Commenting on the announcement of the ‘Plastics Industry Day’ Peter Davis BPF Director General said, “this is an excellent opportunity for the plastics industry to engage with the ODA and LOCOG to discuss the important role plastics will play in the Games, and also for manufacturers to showcase the many benefits their products can bring to the 2012 Olympics and the innovation possible with plastics. The BPF has played the key role to develop this relationship with the ODA and its partners on behalf of the industry”.
