Date and Time: 9th Nov 2023, 10am - 3pm
Venue: TWI Ltd, Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge CB21 6AL

PFAS is the headline term for fluorocarbon based chemicals and fluoropolymers. These materials are used extensively in all industries and are often essential to the successful operation of critical components due to their chemical resilience. This robustness however has led to significant concerns regarding their longevity in the environment and their potential for bioaccumulation and entry into the food chain. Regulatory changes are proposed and reductions in safe limits are being implemented to reduce the potential for adverse human health impacts. The most notable of these is the proposal to ban almost all PFAS in Europe under REACH regulations.

Following the successful webinar held by TWI in July on the subject of the changing landscape for PFAS. TWI is holding a PFAS and REACH workshop to be held as an in-person event at our Cambridge Headquarters on 9th November. The objective of the event is to both raise awareness of the issue and to provide guidance for steps that can be taken to prepare for the challenges that industry will face in this evolving area.

The event will be led by TWI Technology Fellow Dr Alan Taylor and will cover the following topics

1. Regulatory overview
2. Industrial challenges
3. Ensuring compliance
4. Alternative/replacement technologies
5. Remediation and recycling

A panel discussion is also planned to allow an exchange of ideas and key learnings across industrial sectors.

The event is aimed at an industrial audience, particularly those involved in REACH compliance but also the use and selection of products and components that use fluorocarbon chemicals and fluoropolymers.

A detailed agenda will be issued closer to the event.
