Polymer Centre Celebrates “International Month”
Monday, 7 March 2011
Students from across the globe braved heavy snowfalls and transport chaos this Winter to boost their skills at The Polymer Training and Innovation Centre (PTIC), the UK’s newest training academy for the Polymer Industry.
Students from as far afield as Hong Kong visited the new training academy, based in Telford, to embark on a range of courses, including those in waste management and injection moulding.
Senior representatives from a wide range of Chinese organisations travelled to England on a fact finding mission organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council. The group took part in the PTIC’s waste awareness programme before visiting two local companies to find out how the UK manages the polymer waste supply chain.
Nearer afield, a group of students from Syria and Egypt followed a bespoke programme in Injection moulding and blow moulding, to enable them to establish new businesses in their respective countries.
Finally a group of students from Lithuania took part in a bespoke blow moulding course, which the company is hoping to follow up with more of their employees on injection moulding courses.
During December the PTIC also hosted a multinational group from the global company Unilever. The group followed a programme on Injection moulding design and polymer materials seeking to enhance the company’s technical expertise.
Centre Manager Charmaine Bowers said: “Last month had a truly international feel to it as we welcomed students from around the world.
“We are delighted that in our first year of operating we are already welcoming students from the other side of the world, and we look forward to building on our reputation as an international training centre for the polymer industry as we move into our second year.”
