Polymer Distributors, Compounders & Volume Suppliers

The BPF Polymer Distributors, Compounders and Volume Suppliers Group’s mission is to maintain a strong networking platform, to promote and further enhance the polymer distribution and compounding business throughout the UK to both customers and suppliers alike. The group boasts a sizeable membership involved in the distribution of plastics raw materials from producers as well as compounding their own products.

Main aims of the Group

• To maintain the Group as the leading voice of polymer distribution and compounding

• To promote and raise awareness of the applications for plastics materials

• To support the important principle of a ‘supply partnership’
• To achieve a ‘seamless’ supply chain between the polymer producer and end user
• To promote the technical support that is widely available to the processing sector
• To actively encourage and assist with market development opportunities
• To continue to focus on the potential benefits and added value of this sector

 

The Group is actively involved in:

• Managing rising costs, including energy and regulation, and their impact on business and the supply chain. Promoting plastics in UK product design and manufacture with consideration for a range of sales, marketing and communications media
• Managing the reputation of chemicals, additives and plastics materials across the lifecycle
• Managing credit risks
• Managing significant legislative change cost-effectively, particularly with regard to REACH and EU food contact legislation
• Identifying market share of polymer products in the UK and Republic of Ireland
• Benchmarking critical costs in transport, warehousing and logistics
• Assisting the ongoing development and delivery of prudent Health and Safety practice and policies 

 

Group Eligibility Criteria

An eligibility criteria has been created for the group, to broaden the scope and ensure the group accurately represents companies in the distribution and compounding market. We ask new members of the group to self-certify and select whether they meet the 'Distributor', 'Volume Supplier' or 'Compounder' definitions given below. Companies can self declare which of the three categories they fit and companies can choose multiple options (i.e. be included in 1, 2 or all 3 categories).  Companies can request to be added/taken away from categories as their business evolves. Members of each subgroup will be shown in the Members' Directory. 

 

To join the Polymer Distributors, Compounders and Volume Suppliers group, companies must be:

• Registered in the UK and have a minimum of 2 years trading history
• Willing to sign up to Operation Clean Sweep within 12 months of joining the BPF

 

The scope of each subgroup is as follows...

Compounder

• Have UK based compounding facilities
• NOTE: If applicants have overseas compounding facilities they could still apply to join the Group and be identified under ‘Distributors’ and/or ‘Volume Polymer Suppliers’

 

Distributor

• Have UK based warehousing facilities
• Have an official relationship (distribution agreement) with at least one polymer producer
• Offer technical support to customers
• Supply quantities as small as 25Kgs
• Sell products that are polymer branded, rather than own brand (NOTE: this may be waived if own brand is primarily polymer compounds)

 

Volume Polymer Supplier

• Have UK based warehousing facilities
• Focus on PE, PP, PVC and PET
• Have annual resale volumes of greater than 5kt
