1 Properties
Below are a list of key properties of Modified PPO i.e. PPO/PS blend
- Being a blend it is opaque.
- Good dimensional stability.
- Good electrical properties.
- High heat distortion temperature above 100°C (up to 195 °C).
- Modified PPO blends are soluble in moderately polar solvents
- Hard, rigid, strong, reasonably tough and low creep.
- Being a blend it is opaque.
- Good dimensional stability.
- Good electrical properties.
- High heat distortion temperature above 100°C (up to 195 °C).
- Modified PPO blends are soluble in moderately polar solvents.
- Suffer the same problems of oxidation and UV ageing as polystyrenes unless suitably stabilised.
- UV exposure causes server colour changes.
2 Grades Available
Different PPO/PS grades are available with varrying proportions of PPO to deliver the required temperature resistance, and rubber content to give impact resistance.
PPO is also available as:
- "Noryl GTX" - a PA/PPO blend
- "Noryl PPX" - a PP/PPO blend
3 Applications
The good water, heat and electrical resistance make PPO/PS ("Noryl") suitable for hot water applications but many of the applications are in instrument housings and internal components in electrical equipment.
