The BPF annual recycling seminar will examine the implications of the targets as well as providing delegates the opportunity to discuss the key issues facing the industry. Our expert speakers will provide delegates with detailed and insightful presentations on a wide variety of topics, from the latest technology available to the most up to date news on end of waste regulations. Featuring a keynote address from Mary Creagh MP who will provide the Labour Party perspective on the government targets, this is the chance for recyclers to network, to absorb the latest ideas, to improve their business and to the look into the future of the industry.

Speaker Biographies
Roger Baynham, Philip Tyler Polymers Roger has 25 years experience in the industry , originally with Philip Tyler Ltd and since 1994 as Managing Director of Philip Tyler Polymers LTD. Additionally he was appointed as a non – executive Director of Environmental Recycling Technologies PLC in 2006 and has more recently taken up an executive position as Managing Director . Roger is also Chairman of the WRAP Plastics Forum.
Mary Creagh MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Mary was born and brought up in Coventry. After attending the local comprehensive school she studied French and Italian at Oxford
University. She spent 4 years working in Brussels first at the European Parliament, and then the European Youth Forum. She holds an MSc in European Studies from the LSE.
Mary taught entrepreneurship to MBA students and small business owners at Cranfield University's School of Management for 7 years. She was elected as an Islington Councillor in 1998 and was Leader of the Labour Group between 2000 and 2004. She was elected as MP for Wakefield in May 2005 and re-elected in 2010.
Mary was appointed as PPS to Andy Burnham as Culture Secretary and Health Secretary and became a Government Whip in 2009. She was appointed as Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs in October 2010.
Chris Dow, Closed Loop Recycling Chris Dow is CEO of Closed Loop Recycling, an innovative and state-of-the-art UK plastics recycling company.
An Australian entrepreneur, Chris came over to the UK in 2004 when closed loop recycling infrastructure was almost non-existent. Using his extensive business development and senior management experience, as well as his passion for the environment, he managed to secure funding and build his first multi-million pound Closed Loop Recycling plant, developing new technologies and supporting the fledgling UK recycling industry.
Ton Emans, EuPR Ton Emans has more than 20 years experience in plastic recycling process. He is Director Group Recycling.
In 2009, Ton Emans has been named President of EuPR, a non profit organization whose members are European plastic recyclers. EuPR represents National Associations and Individual companies covering 80% of the European market. EuPR focuses on the promotion of plastics recycling and the creation of conditions which enable profitable and sustainable business.
Andrew Green, BPI
Andrew Green is currently Managing Director of four of BPI’s six businesses, BPI Recycled Products, BPI Consumer, BPI Visqueen and BPI Films. Andrew joined BPI 18 years ago when the group acquired the speciality film business he had started with his father in 1990. Andrew has been involved in plastics recycling and the manufacture of recycled products since 1996 and has been responsible for BPI’s major investments in C&I packaging and farm plastic recycling at their plants in Dumfries, Derbyshire and South Wales. Andrew also has responsibility for BPI’s environmental affairs, is a member of DEFRA’s Advisory Committee on Packaging and has been a Non-Executive Director of Valpak since 2002.
Andrew Page, Foresite Group Andrew Page is a first class engineering graduate with operations management experience gained principally with Unilever plc both in Europe and Australia. Andrew has particular knowledge and expertise in Environmental
Technologies and Capital Infrastructure, having led the Environmental Infrastructure drive within Foresight from outset in 2006. His investment experience at Foresight and 3i covers a wide range of sectors and covers development stage investment, strategy reviews and restructuring mature businesses.
Richard Pullen, Defra
Richard’s career has been mainly in Whitehall spanning policy development and implementation, relationship management, corporate services and legislation. The focus of much of his work has been on environmental and related issues including land use planning policy, national parks, environmental land management and marine. He became head of Waste Strategy and Regulation team in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from June this year. Prior to that Richard headed Defra’s Sea Fisheries Conservation, leading on the UK’s engagement on the Common Fisheries Policy including its reform.
Before joining the civil service Richard worked for an international management consultancy and accountancy firm, auditing businesses ranging from small family firms to major manufacturers and international banks.
Peter Singleton, Procter & Gamble Peter Singleton has over 40 years experience in the Packaging Industry covering materials, packaging production, FCMG and retail working for Alcan, Bowater, W R Grace, United Biscuits and Marks and Spencer. Currently he is a Principle Scientist/Engineer in Global Packaging Development for Gillette Blades and Razors within the Beauty and Grooming business of Procter and Gamble.
Paul Vanston, Kent Waste Partnership As the Kent Waste Partnership Manager, Paul Vanston supports and develops the interests of the 13 Kent councils. The KWP’s numbers are big: 720,000 tonnes of recyclates, compostables and residual waste (2011/12); net revenue costs approaching £100 million; and serving 1.5 million residents. The KWP supports the strategic, operational, planning, communications and development needs of the 13 councils. Supporting ‘materials security’ and improving value for money are key facets of the KWP’s activities.
Paul is currently a member of Defra’s Advisory Committee on Packaging’s (ACP’s) Taskforces on Plastics and Market Development; Defra’s Controlled Waste Regulations Group; Wrap’s National Communications Advisory Panel; the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers Policy & Advisory Group; and iESE’s National Waste Partnerships Forum.
