Founder of Rethink Packaging and Refill & Reuse Specialist with ThePackHub, Wayne Barron is a packaging design professional with over 25 years industry experience.
Passionate about circular design, system change and the potential that reusable packaging systems have to deliver truly sustainable packaging solutions and drastically reduce the packaging industries environmental impact.
David Carroll, Plastics Europe
In this session our speaker will explore how the revision of the PPWR will affect reuse in Europe and the implications for us here in the UK.
David Carroll, Director External Affairs, Plastics Europe
David Carroll joined Plastics Europe, the pan-European association of plastics manufacturers, as Director External Affairs in May 2020.
David’s role involves supporting plastics producers in creating the necessary supportive policy and regulatory framework for the industry’s circularity and climate transitions. He leads the association’s advocacy and engagement with governments and institutions in Brussels and coordinates the advocacy efforts of Plastics Europe’s teams across Europe.
Prior to this role, David worked at as a consultant at Hill + Knowlton and Teneo, helping companies, governments and trade associations facing challenging external issues with strategic positioning. David studied law in Cork, Strasbourg and Bruges and began his career in the European Parliament.

In this session our speaker will present on Sheffield’s work on LCA for reusable plastics and present their findings
Gavin Ellis, Director and Co-Founder, Hubbub
In this section Gavin Ellis from Hubbub will present on their current projects, showing their conclusions as well as the progress on their new project in Glasgow.
Biography
Gavin is Director of award-winning environmental charity Hubbub where he leads high profile environmental behaviour change campaigns such as Neat Streets, Leeds By Example and In The Loop. Gavin was one of the three co-founders of Hubbub in 2014 and has been a key part of the team that has established it as one of the UK’s foremost environmental organisations. He has more than 20 years of experience in communicating environmental issues, having previously worked as Senior Client Manager and Marketing Manager at environmental charity Global Action Plan.
Katherine Fleet, Recoup
This session will focus on the published reusability by design guidance looking at the results from technical tests carried out by the University of Sheffield.
Biography
Katherine is Head of Sustainability and Circularity at RECOUP, the UK’s leading authority on plastics recycling and resource efficiency. At RECOUP, Katherine leads on development of workstreams such as reuse and lifecycle assessment. Before joining RECOUP, Katherine worked in sustainability functions within the plastics packaging industry. Her experience includes corporate sustainability strategy, sustainability reporting and communications, and developing partnerships along the plastics value chain to address industry wide challenges.
James Bull, Tesco
In this session James Bull will provide the audience with an overview of the reuse projects currently being undertaken by Tesco. He will explore what the projects are, why Tesco are undertaking them and new initiatives.
Biography
James has worked for the last 25 years in delivering transformation initiatives across the Tesco business, currently leading the Packaging team; Committed to removal, reduction, reuse and recycling of packaging used across the Tesco global supply chain, ensuring we only use packaging with a purpose and everything we use can be reused or recycled.
Focused on accelerating the exit of hard to recycle materials, increasing the use of recycled materials and helping customers make environmentally responsible decisions.
He has worked with industry to influence the improvement of retrieval and recycling in the UK moving towards progressively closed loop systems for packaging
Hugo Lynch, Abel and Cole
in this session Hugo Lynch will explore Abel and Coles work in plastics reuse for resuable milk bottles exploring the challenges faced and their future plans
Biography
Hugo Lynch is a sustainability practitioner with a particular interest in circular economy and supply chain. Together with a team of three he leads the sustainability agenda at Abel & Cole, addressing scopes 1-3 emissions against their SBTI commitments to reach 50% emissions reduction by 2030 and works closely with the operations teams on the implementation of packaging reuse initiatives.
