Sir George Howarth MP for Knowsley at Colloids

Sir George Howarth MP for Knowsley at Colloids

The British Plastics Federation and Colloids Ltd hosted the MP for Knowsley, Sir George Howarth at the Colloids manufacturing site in Merseyside. Having attended the BPFs Parliamentary Reception and wanting to engage with manufacturers within his constituency, the BPF reached out to Sir George Howarth to aid with this task. Russell Livesey, the CEO of Colloids and the chairmen of the BPFs Masterbatch and Compounders group kindly extended an invitation to tour the impressive manufacturing site and to explain the current challenges his company is facing.

Like many UK manufacturing businesses, times are challenging and here are some of Colloids’ key asks:

  • Reduce corporation tax to aid British manufacturing businesses in the north.
  • Further invest in infrastructure and skills.
  • Minimise regulatory divergence between the UK and the EU.
  • Reintroduce the trade show access programme.

During the tour, Sir George Howarth highlighted the magnitude of work which Colloids had undergone to ensure their facility is able to compete internationally. He was particularly impressed by the investment in young professionals and apprentices throughout the various departments within the site.

Mohamed Elkhalifa, The BPFs Public Affairs Manager stated:

“Colloids are at the forefront of science and innovation within the world of masterbatch production. They have shown that the constant pursuit of creativity is why their business has grown and continues to do so over the years!”

Overall, the site tour was worthwhile for the MP and moreover, will lead to an increase in engagement as Sir George Howarth was interested in what more he can do for the industry that he once worked in and believes will be part of a sustainable solution for the future.
