BPF’s Net Zero Strategy

The BPF hosts the first UK’s Plastics Industry Net Zero Hub, equipped with the latest information and details on how to take action on your Net Zero journey. The hub includes the BPF Energy’s Climate Change Agreement, Carbon Footprint Tool, a Decarbonisation Directory and practical training and resources for the industry. As of November 2023, the BPF is proud to add our Net Zero Strategy document to the hub! Download it below...
As part of its commitment to the environment and to act in response to global warming, the BPF is looking to implement measures to help the UK plastics industry reduce carbon emissions and work toward Net Zero. This approach aligns with the need to respond to increasing stakeholder interest and increased government focus on environmental policy, and to mitigate risks associated with greater energy insecurity and higher costs, and additional costs associated with carbon emissions.
This report presents the findings of initial work carried out by Ricardo on behalf of the BPF* toward developing a Net Zero strategy by 2050. The first step was to better understand emissions from the activities of the BPF’s membership by undertaking a baseline assessment, where the primary focus is on emissions directly under the control of the membership.
Building on this, the core elements of a decarbonisation strategy have been developed through generating a forecast of potential pathways to reach Net Zero and accompanying these with a series of measures and actions in support of delivering the pathway actions, including next steps.
The report outlines specific set recommended actions for members as well as for the BPF as a business to move forward. This member-only document is available for download now!
